Frequently Asked Questions and Answers
Why did this site change in late 2005?
The man who originally owned this site was named Don Pinchen, and he grew the site from a collection of links that he used for his personal use, to
eventually expand the categories and provide a site for all fantasy football lovers. Don wasn't really a tech guy, and so the demands
of keeping up a site with so many thousands of links as well as the costs of running his server grew to be too much, and he pulled the plug in late 2005.
I happened to see someone mention in a thread on
FFToday that they were upset
that FFBookmarks had gone down. As a previous advertiser on this site, and someone who appreciated the number of referrals that it brought my site,
I quickly found Don's number and gave him a call. My intention was to help him with whatever technical issues it seemed he was having,
but when I found out that Don's heart wasn't in it any longer I ended up purchasing the site from him.
Who are you then?
I'm Jeremy Smith, I own a league management software site called
Xpert Sports as well as some other fantasy football
related businesses.
Why did you change the layout?
As anyone who is familiar with my other sites knows, I'm a big believer in the power of good design. I thought a simpler, more modern
interface would lend itself well to a site like this. I also believe in the power of the community to come to an interesting consensus over
which sites are most worthy of viewing, and so decided that the links would be kept in a database and be ratable by users. This
helped me greatly because it dispersed the responsibility of maintaining and ranking so many links across a great many people. It also
had a surprising benefit in that people would tend to "rate down" dead links which made them easier to find and remove (after our original purging of
hundreds of dead links).
What is with the HOF links?
The previous version of FFBookmarks had sites that were designated as "Hall of Fame" sites, which basically were sites that Don had grown to trust and value over time. I didn't
see any reason to do away with this concept, and have added my own HOF entries in each category. While it's true that Xpert Sports
is given HOF status in some categories, we share that listing with competitor sites that we respect such as
MyFantasyLeague,
AntSports, and
Yahoo Sports.
And I truly am a fan of all the sites that are listed, and find it rewarding to be able to credit sites such as
Footballguys.com which were
instrumental to me in getting in to this business, as well as being a resource that I still use on a daily basis.
How do I get a site listed?
If you submit your site in the submit box at the top of the site, it will get added if it fits the category that it was submitted for. Note that
the only criterias are that it fits the category, and that it's not a site that exists on Geocities or some other free hosting service. We would
like the links to concentrate on legitimate businesses at the expense of listing every single possible site that might fit a category.
